Sarah is an inspirational speaker who loves to engage young minds and especially reluctant readers/writers.
She is highly experienced in facilitating creative writing workshops for children of all ages and abilities, and particularly loves empowering young people to believe in themselves and to express their love of nature and the environment through writing poems and stories.
Sarah’s novels are ideally suited to children at KS2 (SeaBEAN trilogy) and KS3 (CHAMELEON), while her poetry anthology works well with any age group. Her books are featured on many recommended school reading lists and SeaBEAN has now been adopted as a literacy resource by the nationwide United Learning academy group.
Over the past 9 years, Sarah has visited over 150 primary and secondary schools in the UK, to run activities and creative writing workshops with children from year 2 to year 13. She is a popular choice for school visits during their Book Weeks and on World Book Day when everyone likes to dress up and is really excited about meeting a real live author!
‘Sarah came to our school and ignited all our pupils in year 4 to write a blog.
She engaged them in how she became a writer and brought magic to her book by bringing an actual seabean and Black Box! We travelled in the C-Bean to many wonderful places.
Her manner makes the children and adults feel at ease, even the most reluctant writers produced sensational work. I would thoroughly recommend Sarah Holding to visit a school and explain her new genre ‘Clifi’.’
-Year 4 class teacher November 2018, Winterbourne Junior Girls School.
Sarah has been sharing her love of the environment and encouraging children to think more deeply about the consequences of climate change with her SeaBEAN trilogy and now with her new book CHAMELEON, which both fall into the new genre of cli-fi or climate fiction.

Sarah has also produced a KS2 Scheme of Work, which encompasses 10 lesson plans based on the first book of the SeaBEAN trilogy, and can be downloaded for free from the TES website. If you are part of the United Learning group, there is also a Writing Unit which they have prepared based on SeaBEAN for schools who are reading the book, which they can adapt and use with KS2 pupils.
